Why the Golf Swing Causes Back Pain

The golf swing creates powerful rotational forces through the lower back.

Over time this can lead to:

• Lower back pain during or after a round
• Stiffness limiting rotation
• Sciatic nerve irritation
• Disc pressure in the lumbar spine
• Reduced power and swing mobility

When spinal movement is restricted, the body compensates — often leading to pain.

Chiropractic Care Designed for Golfers

At Body First Chiropractic, we evaluate the specific spinal mechanics that influence your golf swing.

Your evaluation focuses on:

✔ Spine mobility and rotation
✔ Disc and nerve involvement
✔ Hip and pelvis movement
✔ Posture affecting your swing

After the evaluation, we develop a personalized care plan designed to help improve mobility and reduce stress on the spine.

This evaluation is ideal for golfers experiencing:

• Lower back pain during their swing
• Pain after playing a round
• Sciatica or nerve symptoms
• Reduced flexibility or rotation
• A previous disc injury

If back pain is limiting your time on the course, identifying the underlying cause is the first step.

I was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel, and nerve adhesions in my arms from years of rock climbing and compounding athletic injuries. The pain and neuropathy in my arms was preventing me from getting restful sleep. I consulted multiple doctors and specialists over the years, wore arm and wrist braces, and tried months of PT sessions. I tried botox injections to relax some arm muscles suspected of causing some problems. I did not want surgery as I just knew it would only make the problem worse as it so often does. I never got the impression that any of these doctors or therapists really understood where exactly the pain was coming from and what it really felt like. I eventually gave up and just dealt with the pain for about 10 years until my wife sent me over to Dr. Hill. I had low expectations, but promised that I would do the at-home work he gave me, hoping that he could just create some sort of change in the pain showing that he was over the target. The changes started after the first session and after followup sessions the pain started moving around to other problem areas until it was... just, gone. Now I am training again without the fear that the pain will be a constant part of my life. Dr. Hill's instincts of how to find and address nerve/tendon/muscle pain are quite amazing. He listens to feedback and is humble enough to acknowledge when a therapy attempt isn't working. For me, his treatment has had the single, most positive impact on my quality of life out of any other medical intervention... ever. I highly recommend Dr. Hill.

Chiropractic care from a chiropractor that will get you good again in just a few visits. (never any more than is needed) Dr. Hill is NOT ONE TO KEEP PAITENTS SICK AND CONTINUALLY NEEDING to return and spend all their money. NO, Dr. Justin Hill is not the typical medical professional who likes you to stay sick! He will always tell what is behind the pain, work with you, give you 1-2 simple stretches that you do for your part, and then you will feel great, and only return for a tune up when or if needed. We found Dr. Hill during the time when many things were turning their backs on patients during Covid. Dr. Hill was the fortunate in an unfortunate time. Thanks Dr. Hill .

I usually never leave reviews, but I have to take a moment to say Dr. Hill is really great. Very accommodating, personable, and caring towards his patients. I am happy I chose someone that is so kind and listens to patient needs. It is hard to find providers anymore that truly provide patient care and have time to actually listen to parient needs. It is nice to go in and be greeted directly by him and not just be a number on a very busy chiropractic schedule. No sales pressure either which is also nice. Thank you Dr.Hill for always being so accommodating and patient focused!
